Questions people ask

Is compressing a GIF the same as optimizing it?

Yes. A GIF has no quality setting like a JPEG, so making it smaller means storing less, fewer repeated pixels, fewer colors, fewer frames or fewer pixels per frame. This tool does all four and shows the effect before you export.

Will it look worse?

Not with the defaults, which only skip pixels that did not change. Fewer colors and lower frame rates do change the picture, and the preview shows exactly how.

Can I compress a GIF to a specific size?

Yes. Switch to Target size and type the limit, for example 8 MB for a forum or 2 MB for an email. The tool tries fewer colors, then a lower frame rate, then a smaller width, and stops at the first result under the limit.

Do you upload my GIF?
