Resize a video for Instagram, free

Instagram shows feed videos tallest at 4:5 and Reels at 9:16. Drop your clip and the 4:5 frame is placed in the middle. Move it over the part that matters, switch to 9:16 for a Reel if you like, and export at full quality.

Works in Chrome, Edge and Safari 17 or newer. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop your video

MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. It opens instantly because nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2

    Place the frame

4:5 is selected for the feed. Drag the frame over your subject, zoom in if you want, or pick 9:16 for Reels and Stories.

  3. 3

    Export and post

The crop is applied on your device at the original pixel size of the region you chose.

Questions people ask

Which sizes does Instagram use?

Feed posts show best at 4:5, which is 1080 by 1350 pixels. Reels and Stories are 9:16, which is 1080 by 1920. Square 1:1 still works in the feed but takes less space on screen.

Can I make a Reel from a landscape video?

Yes. Choose 9:16 and drag the frame to the part of the picture you want to keep. Zoom in a little if the subject is small.

Does cropping reduce quality?

The pixels inside the frame are kept at their original size and re-encoded once at high quality. Instagram compresses the upload again, so start from a clean file.

Do you upload my video?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file stays on your device until you post it yourself.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome, Edge and Safari 17 or newer on desktop and Android. Firefox does not support the video APIs the tool needs yet.
